Panagiotis Karamanos


Manager, Environmental Services Department, Athens International Airport

Panagiotis Karamanos is the Manager of the Environmental Services Department of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (AIA). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Public Affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University and an MA in Economic Development from Duke University. He has worked with businesses, municipalities, and educational institutions on environmental, local community, and public policy issues. Through team work at the Environmental Services Department, AIA has increased recycling from 2% in 2001 to more than 40% in 2009, has launched a company-wide Climate Change Action Plan, and has focused on local community relations and the implementation of a number of projects, in the fields of environment (e.g., 5 parks), transportation (e.g., roads), education (e.g., equipment provision, scholarships), culture/athletics (e.g., support for cultural events) and society (e.g., playgrounds)
